1991 Honda Civic LX

5 speed, LX sedan, power steering, doors, windows. AC. Cruise control (not working). Fair to Good condiditon.

Kelly blue book says it's worth at least $1600 fixed. The big question is what it would cost to fix it. It fires up and runs just fine, but it overheats badly. It isn't missing, loosing water, or mixing oil with water. It has either a blown head gasket or a sheared water pump shaft. The head gasket repair would be $800 - $1200. The pump would be $100 - $200. Those are retail, full service prices. A home repair could be done for a lot less ($500 for the head, $60 for the pump); I have the dealer service book.

Even the head gasket isn't that expensive (~$130), although you also want to do the rings, valve seals, and have the head plained. Bill and Mesa Machine & Supply 7607462815 PO Box 461712 Escondido CA 92046 says the head total rebuild should be around $300. Maybe a little more if they find busted valves (which is unlikely since it runs smooth now) and a bit less if it's a 12 value vs the 16 valve head (I haven't looked).
